Engrácia Cardoso – Erva Daninha – Semente Inquieta

A Galeria Sete apresenta “Erva daninha – semente inquieta”, uma exposição individual da artista plástica Engrácia Cardoso que inaugurará este sábado, dia 29 de novembro, das 16h às 20h, em simultâneo com a exposição “Arte de Bolso”, estará patente até ao dia 20 de janeiro de 2026. A entrada é livre e todos são bem-vindos!

O artista, ser inquieto, semeador de resistência por via do ato criativo, cultivador de utopias pelo exercício permanente do seu trabalho livre, não precisa de buscar ou inventar temas inusitados, ou de se comportar como um sociólogo para nos levar a pensar na vida, na atualidade, na organização social.

Relativamente ao fazer do seu próprio trabalho e ao tema desta exposição, diz a artista, em reflexão acerca das obras que agora apresentamos (num texto que intitulou Erva daninha ou uma semente inquieta):

“A natureza tem sido uma presença constante e estruturante na reflexão que orienta o meu trabalho artístico. As questões ambientais, as alterações climáticas, a extinção de espécies animais e vegetais, bem como as paisagens — naturais e humanas — constituem o cerne das minhas inquietações. Interesso-me, igualmente, pelas relações afetivas e pela palavra enquanto veículo de pensamento e emoção.

É a partir deste entrelaçamento de preocupações e sensações, aliado ao prazer intrínseco do ato de desenhar, que parto para a ação criativa.

Nos últimos anos, o percurso que tenho vindo a construir conduziu-me à realização de um projeto de continuidade, centrado na viagem — nas suas nuances singulares, na sua dimensão simbólica e na paisagem que dela emerge. A reflexão sobre o espaço e sobre as novas formas de o percecionar permitiu-me criar um contexto renovado e atribuir-lhe um novo significado, onde o olhar se torna também um gesto de reencontro e descoberta.”

Biografia:

Engrácia Cardoso (Tomar 1976) Mestre em Pintura pela FBAUL e licenciada em Desenho pela ESAP. Selecionada para II Bienal de Desenho de Almada (2018), Prémio Paula Rego (2016), Fundação do Prémio La Caixa, vencedora – Bolsa de Viagem Henrique Silva da Fundação de Bienal de Cerveira (2008) e venceu o VIII Grande Prémio de Pintura Fidelidade Mundial (2004). Está representada em coleções particulares, publicas, nacionais e internacionais.

Realizou residências artísticas no projeto Weg Mit Kunst,em Kaiserslautern, Alemanha (2014 e 2009), e em Compiègne, França (2006).

Galeria Sete presents “Erva daninha – semente inquieta” (Weeds – Restless Seeds), a solo exhibition by artist Engrácia Cardoso, which will open this Saturday, November 29, from 4 pm to 8 pm, simultaneously with the exhibition “Arte de Bolso” (Pocket Art), and will be on display until January 20, 2026. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! The artist, a restless being, a sower of resistance through the creative act, a cultivator of utopias through the permanent exercise of her free work, does not need to seek or invent unusual themes, or behave like a sociologist to make us think about life, current events, and social organization.

Regarding her own work and the theme of this exhibition, the artist says, in a reflection on the works we are now presenting (in a text she titled Weed or a Restless Seed):

“Nature has been a constant and structuring presence in the reflection that guides my artistic work. Environmental issues, climate change, the extinction of animal and plant species, as well as landscapes—both natural and human—are at the heart of my concerns. I am equally interested in emotional relationships and words as a vehicle for thought and emotion.

It is from this intertwining of concerns and sensations, combined with the intrinsic pleasure of drawing, that I set out on my creative journey.

In recent years, the path I have been building has led me to undertake a continuous project focused on travel—its unique nuances, its symbolic dimension, and the landscape that emerges from it. Reflecting on space and new ways of perceiving it has allowed me to create a renewed context and give it new meaning, where the gaze also becomes a gesture of rediscovery and discovery.”

Biography

Engrácia Cardoso (Tomar 1976) has a Master’s degree in Painting from FBAUL and a degree in Drawing from ESAP. Selected for the 2nd Almada Drawing Biennial (2018), Paula Rego Prize (2016), La Caixa Prize Foundation, winner of the Henrique Silva Travelling Grant from the Cerveira Biennial Foundation (2008) and winner of the VIII Fidelidade Mundial Grand Prize for Painting (2004). She is represented in private, public, national and international collections.
