Juliana Julieta é artista visual e realizadora que trabalha entre pintura e cinema
experimental. Licenciada e Mestre em Pintura (FBAUP/FBAUL), centra a sua prática
na pintura a óleo e cinema experimental, abordando-a como um campo de
experimentação sensível onde gesto, corpo e matéria se entrelaçam. O seu
trabalho explora a fisicalidade dos processos manuais e as diferentes
temporalidades da imagem, investigando uma relação tátil, sensorial e
fenomenológica de criar imagens.
Em paralelo com a prática da Pintura, desenvolve uma prática em cinema
analógico, com recurso a revelação alternativa de película, edição em câmara e
métodos artesanais, expandindo o cinema como experiência material e
performativa da imagem em movimento.
Colabora com a Casa do Xisto como instrutora 16mm nos workshops de ecoprocessing.

2022, bolsa FLAD).
Foi vencedora da MNJC 2023 e nomeada para o Sovereign Portuguese Art Prize
2024, ano em que a sua obra integrou a coleção pública CACE – Coleção de Arte
Contemporânea do Estado e Pláka Aquisições (Porto).
Os seus filmes foram mostrados no Curtas Vila do Conde, IndieLisboa, Centro de
Arte Oliva, Queer Porto, Festival (S8), Anthology Film Archives, entre outros.
Expõe regularmente desde 2014.

Juliana Julieta is a visual artist and filmmaker working between painting and
experimental cinema. She holds a BA and MA in Painting (FBAUP/FBAUL) and
centers her practice on oil painting and experimental film, approaching both as
fields of sensorial experimentation where gesture, body, and matter intertwine. Her
work explores the physicality of manual processes and the multiple temporalities of
the image, investigating a tactile, sensory, and phenomenological approach to
image-making.
Alongside her painting practice, she develops a body of work in analogue cinema,
using alternative film processing, in-camera editing, and artisanal methods,
expanding cinema as a material and performative experience of the moving image.
She collaborates with Casa do Xisto as a 16mm instructor in eco-processing
workshops.
Artistic residencies include PRIMAL LIGHT #3 – SPECTRAL (Laboratório da Torre and
Batalha Centro de Cinema, Porto, 2023), InResidence at Performing the Archive
(Porto, 2024), Herbarium in Motion in the Rhine region (Germany), supported by
Europe Moves Culture (2025), as well as Porta33 (Funchal) and GOCA (Viana do
Castelo), 2025. Juliana was a fellow of the 16MM IMMERSIVE LAB (Casa do Xisto,
2021), Dear Doc (Doc’s Kingdom, 2021), and The Mechanics of Cinema residency at
MONO NO AWARE (New York, 2022, FLAD grant).
Julieta was the winner of MNJC 2023 and nominated for the Sovereign Portuguese
Art Prize 2024, the year in which her work entered the public collection CACE –
Portuguese State Contemporary Art Collection and Pláka Aquisições (Porto).
Her films have been screened at Curtas Vila do Conde, IndieLisboa, Centro de Arte
Oliva, Queer Porto, (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, Anthology Film
Archives, among others. She has exhibited regularly since 2014.
